Parolee arrested on felony charges

Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a parolee on several felony charges, including burglary and gun possession.

On Jan. 3, Madera County Sheriff’s Detective Adam McEwen, Deputies Melanie Hopper and Mike Murphy, and POP Team members K-9 Deputy Eric Jackson, and Probation Officer Flora Munoz responded to a residence in the area of Sunset Avenue and Doubletree Way in Madera, to contact a subject in connection with a residential burglary that occurred in the 21000 block of Road 19 on Dec. 12.

During the course of the investigation, sheriff’s detectives acquired enough information to identify a potential suspect.

The suspect, 25-year-old Madera resident Elias Rosas, was also on active parole for possession of stolen property and a loaded firearm.

According to the terms of his parole, Rosas was contacted and a search of his residence was conducted. During the search, deputies recovered various types of ammunition, along with a .22 caliber revolver, and pistol magazines. A baggy containing what appeared to be cocaine was also located, in addition to a duffle bag containing large bags of processed marijuana. Rosas had a container with a useable amount of methamphetamine as well as a glass pipe on his person.

Elias Rosas was subsequently arrested and booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections for multiple felony counts including residential burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and violation of parole, as well as several misdemeanor charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, and possession of burglary tools.

The investigation remains ongoing. Rosas remains in custody at the Department of Corrections without bond.
