Retiring Madera County Superintendent of Schools Cecilia Massetti, left, presents her successor Tricia Protzman with a cap following Protzman’s swearing-in on June 30.
History was made on June 30 when Tricia Protzman took the oath of office to make her the next Madera County Superintendent of Schools.
For a thin slice of time, the strict lines of demarcation separating the Madera County Board of Education and the County Superintendent of Schools melted away, and the latter was beholden to the former.
For the first time in history, Madera County has a Superintendent of Schools who was not elected by the people. In the case of Protzman, she was chosen by the Madera County Board of Education.
