Supervisors honor CHP officers

Two Madera California Highway Patrol officers were honored at the most recent Madera County Board of Supervisors meeting for their heroic efforts in April.

While working at a public event at Town and County Park on the afternoon of April 9, Officer Ruvalcaba was approached by a frantic mother whose young child was choking.

Officer Ruvalcaba sprung into action and performed life saving measures to dislodge candy from the child’s airway.

Near midnight, also on April 9, reports of a wrong-way driver were broadcast on State Route 99 near Ave 18 1/2.

Officer Herrera heard the call and responded to locate the vehicle. While performing a traffic break to slow all cars approaching the wrong-way driver, Officer Herrera observed the vehicle approaching his location.

Without hesitation, Officer Herrera stopped the wrong-way vehicle by using his patrol car to intercept it, resulting in a crash which disabled both vehicles within the center median.

Luckily, Officer Herrera and the wrong-way driver suffered only minor injuries and no other vehicles were involved.
