Family gathering turned deadly
For The Madera Tribune Dr. Dow Ransom, shown here, was one of the 5 physicians who attempted to save two Madera families who had been struck down by food poisoning in 1918. It was a proud moment for Grover Mitchell, when he joined the growing number of Maderans who had switched from a horse and buggy to the horseless carriage. He was pleased with his new vehicle, and on Sunday, Jan. 27, 1918, Mitchell loaded his wife and two children into the car for an inaugural spin in his

My family always has to wait a while before we delve into the sweets, as our usual Thanksgiving meal doesn’t leave much room for anything else. During that waiting

But they sure come in handy much later, when a midnight snack attack puts leftovers to good use. Perhaps a m

About half the people in my family called it dressing, and the other half called it stuffing. I think as a kid, I used the term dressing, but now I find myself saying stuffing. No matter what you call it, it is the same thing. My family has prepared it every Thanksgiving for generations. There are a few who don’t like it at all, and that’s okay, too. We actually do stuff
