Students dedicate friendship bench

The graduating class of the Teach One to Lead One program at Cesar Chavez Elementary School has dedicated a friendship bench during ceremonies at the school.

Students from Lisa Williams’s fourth grade class at Cesar Chavez gave presentations and skits to explain and demonstrate the purpose of the bench, which is to offer a place for a student or students to sit to indicate they need a friend.

When a student is seen sitting on the bench, an upper grade student will know to approach that student and offer friendship.

Attending Thursday were Director Theresa Farmer of Teach One to Lead One, mentors and school staff as well as Dennis Smith, owner of General Builder’s Supply, which donated the bench.
