Prison hosts bike distribution

For The Madera Tribune

Valley State Prison workers pose with bicycles that were distributed to the Merced County Office of Education with the generosity of Madera GBS and Home Depot.

Unlike other bike distribution, Valley State Prison’s bike distribution helped many disabled individuals with bicycles.

On March 22, VSP distributed a number of bicycles to the Merced County Office of Education with the generosity of Madera GBS and Home Depot.

The specialized bicycles are uniquely constructed for each individual to overcome difficulty with balance, leg strength, arm or hand strength, coordination, upper body strength, control of limbs, or any number of other special needs. They allow these individuals an opportunity to be more mobile at school or work as well as engage in an outdoor recreational activity enjoyed by many while at the same time providing independence, fun and physical development. The finished bicycles are provided at no charge to the recipient.
