More than 100 runners take off at the starting line during the 4th annual Running With the Lions Strive for Diabetes 5K run last year at Town and Country Park. The annual event is hosted by the Madera Evening Lions Club and is scheduled for April 11 this year.

Lions International, the largest membership-based service club organization in the world, presented the Madera Evening Lions Club the Kindness Matters Service Award in February.

This prestigious award is given annually to Lions and Leo clubs for performing an outstanding service project in one of Lions International’s global cause areas — childhood cancer, diabetes, disaster relief, environment, humanitarian, hunger, vision and youth.

“I continue to be moved by the extraordinary compassion and creativity of Lions and Leos around the world,” said Lions Clubs International President A.P. Singh. “When we combine our talents and passion for helping others, we create real change, turning hope into action and making our world a brighter place for everyone.”
