One dead in 2-car collision

California High Patrol units in Oakhurst responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision that resulted in possible ejections and, ultimately, a fatality.

CHP units responded to the area or Road 426, west of Road 427 (School Road) on Sunday at about 9:15 p.m.

Two occupants of a BMW were ejected from the vehicle and each sustained suspected serious injuries. Emergency Medical Services transported the BMW occupants from the scene to Clovis Regional Medical Center via Sierra Ambulance. The driver of the BMW was pronounced deceased at 10 58 p.m.

The preliminary investigation determined the driver of the BMW, along with an adult female passenger, was traveling eastbound on Road 426 at an undetermined high rate of speed, west of Road 427. The driver of the BMW made an unsafe lane change and struck a white Honda Civic.

The BMW traveled out of control in a southeasterly direction, off the roadway and the driver side of the BMW struck the tree. Both the driver and passenger were ejected. At least one of the occupants were not earring their seatbelt.

The occupants of the Honda sustained suspected minor injuries and refused medical transport.

The Madera County Coroner will notify the next of kin.

The collision is pending further investigation. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision.
