Everyday food counts, too

Corn and black beans go together very well. Adding some colorful bell peppers to the mix is even better.

It seems like we sort of get caught in a revolving door, going from one holiday or special event to another, barely getting a chance to catch our breath.


I understand that the world of marketing and advertising tends to promote special days very early, because most businesses need to make a profit. And those businesses provide us with a great variety of goods and services. I used to design advertising and found it enjoyable and creative. When it comes to cooking, though, I find myself being challenged to come up with ideas for ordinary, everyday meals.


Living a rural life can often make it even more challenging, when it isn’t practical to make a run to the grocery store for every little ingredient that you don’t have. The night before writing this, I made a pot of beef and vegetable soup, with barley. I used up whatever items I had on hand, not using a recipe.
