Coyotes split at Best of the West

SANTA MARIA — The Madera Coyotes softball team picked up a pair of wins and suffered a pair of losses at the Best of the West Softball Tournament in Santa Maria over the weekend.
The Coyotes had impressive victories over Lompoc and Stockdale-Bakersfield, but suffered losses to Thousand Oaks, who ended up in the final four of the tournament, and Oaks Christian-Westlake Village, who is ranked No. 4 in the state.
The highlight of the tournament was Malea Ricks when she had a three-for-four day against Stockdale. She picked up her 163rd, 164th, and 165th hit of her career to break the school record of 163 held by Mariah Davis in 2014. Ricks ended up with seven hits and five runs scored in the three-day tournament.
