Offers catch robbery suspect

Last week, Madera police officers responded to a robbery that occurred at the Shell gas station on Gateway Dr. and Olive Ave.

The male suspect entered the store and demanded money from the cash register. During the incident, the suspect discharged pepper spray at the employees and fled the area in a vehicle.


Later in the shift, Madera Police Officer Santoyo located the suspect vehicle in the area of Road 29 and Ave. 13 1/2. Upon seeing the officer, the suspect began driving evasively as it travelled eastbound on State Route 145. The suspect vehicle sustained damage during his attempt to evade officers and became disabled.


The suspect fled on foot into a rural property, east of Road 29. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect, who was identified as Tyler Easly, was taken into custody.


Easly was booked at the Madera County Jail for robbery and additional felony charges related to the case.


DUI arrests


Madera Police Officers officers made five DUI arrests over the weekend.


One of the arrests, was related to a collision in the 300 block of Maple Street. Trinidad Cruz-Guzman struck a parked car, then crashed into a trailer and two mailboxes.


Cruz-Guzman was driving with a blood alcohol concentration nearly three times the legal limit.
