Obituary: Alma ‘Christine’ Long

Alma “Christine” Long.

 

Alma “Christine” Long (Cossey), 90, of Fresno CA, passed away on July 16, 2022.


Christine was born in Norman, OK on April 22, 1932, the second of seven children. Her family moved to Madera when she was a young girl and she attended Madera High School.


Christine was a homemaker and worked at various jobs including Oberti Olives and as a supervisor at the Madera Glass Plant. In fact, she was the first woman to work as a boiler operator in the hot glass area. Christine also owned and operated Riley’s Tavern on the old 99. Christine volunteered in the community of Madera. She was a Cancer Crusader, member of the PTA and a Boy Scout Troop Leader. Christine enjoyed bowling, boating, and fishing. She was also skilled at sewing and knitting, gifting family and friends with her creations.


Christine is survived by her three children, daughter Karen Wilson of Fresno, son and daughter-in-law Gary and Karan Long of Madera, and son Chris Long of Merced, her three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Christine is preceded in death by her mother and father, Tilman and Mary Cossey, four of her six brothers, Virgil, Calvin, Kenneth and Jack, son-in-law Barry Wilson and daughter-in-law Tina Long.

The family of Christine wishes to thank the staff at the Gettysburg Christian Home and Nina’s Home Care for taking great care of her.
