City of Madera dignitaries happily accept two checks for $1 million each from U.S. Congressman John Duarte during a check presentation Friday.

United States Congressman John Duarte was in Madera Friday afternoon to present $2 million to the City of Madera.

During the check presentation ceremony in front of the City Hall building, two checks for $1 million dollars each were presented to Mayor Santos Garcia along with City Manager Arnoldo Rodriguez and City Councilmembers Jose Rodriguez and Artemio Villegas. City Engineer Keith Helmuth and Police Chief Gino Chiaramonte were also on site to receive the checks on behalf of the community.

Half of the $2 million dollars is to be used to jumpstart the City’s Sewer Main Trunk Project, and provide funding to replace up to 1.7 miles of City pipeline along Pecan Avenue from Granada Drive to State Route 99, while the other half will be allocated to Madera’s Storm Drain Pipeline Replacement Project, and fund the installation of approximately 10,600 linear feet of permanent underground storm pipelines, associated manholes and storm water inlets and outlets throughout the community.
