Steven Montes announces plans to run for City Council
Lifelong Madera resident Steven Montes has announced his candidacy for District 3 on the Madera City Council. His name will be on the ballot in the November General Election.
A campaign kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Tap House, 2175 N. Schnoor Ave., Suite 101.
Montes has lived in District 3 for 22 years and worked with many community members and organizations striving to make Madera a better place to live for all. He is a family man and longtime public worker, including 2 1/2 years of service as a neighborhood preservation specialist with the City of Madera.
Montes earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management Economics at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Following his graduation, he returned to the Central Valley to continue working to benefit his community.
“He is a passionate leader who has been active in community outreach, including rallying residents to vote and stay informed as part of Madera Votes,” said information from his campaign.
“It is time for District 3 to elect a leader who is reflective of our entire community and responsive to our needs,” said Montes. He has more than 10 years of experience working in local government. His professional background includes finance, code compliance and community outreach.
One of his major accomplishments, he said, includes writing and presenting the City of Madera Proactive Rental Housing Inspection Program Ordinance, which was adopted on June 21, 2017. “The ordinance ensures safe and healthy living conditions for Madera residents.”
Montes says he is dedicated to preserving and growing the positive components of Madera while ameliorating those conditions that need improvement through the encouragement of community participation and seeking common sense municipal policies.
