Torres, Liberty earn No. 2 in volleyball
The fall sports second season began this week for girls tennis and girls volleyball teams. The Liberty Hawks and Matilda Torres Toros girls volleyball team each earned No. 2 seeds in their respective division, and hosted home games Tuesday. Liberty is the No. 2 seed in Division V, and hosted, ironically, Golden Valley-Bakersfield on Tuesday (Liberty is in the Golden Valley Unified School District). Speedway to host Pumpkin Smash event
The 19th annual Pumpkin Smash Halloween Bash Enduro race features a full field of fearless drivers racing Saturday on a Madera Speedway filled with obstacles such as slimy pumpkin guts, soap, water, and other debris in a 200-lap spectacle. Drivers race 100-laps in each direction around the one-third mile asphalt oval with sights on the cash prize and the trophy.
