Students enjoy true farm-to-table initiative

The Madera Unified School District Child Nutrition Department served mandarins during the lunch meal service across Madera Unified schools that were grown and harvested at the Madera South High School Farm by the Future Farmers of America.

FFA students spent their morning harvesting the fruit from the many trees on campus last Thursday.

It is a genuine farm-to-table initiative that many of the FFA students and staff have put a lot of time and effort into, and they are excited to see the fruits of their labor comes into fulfillment.

The one-acre grove located at Madera South High School was planted several years ago. This is the fourth year that the Madera FFA harvested the crop and provided it to the Child Nutrition Department to distribute to the students of Madera Unified.

The mandarins were served during lunch on Friday.
