MPD responds to stabbing

Madera Police Department Officers responded to reports of a large fight in the area of Town and Country Park.


While responding to the fight on May 14 at about 5:30 p.m., officers learned a 33-year-old male had arrived at a local hospital suffering from a stab wound sustained during the altercation.


During the investigation, detectives determined several individuals had gathered at the park when a physical altercation broke out.


Investigators identified two juvenile males, ages 16 and 17, as being involved in the assault of the adult victim. During the incident, the 16-year-old male stabbed the victim.


A short time later, detectives identified both juvenile suspects, who were subsequently located and taken into custody without incident.


The 17-year-old male was booked on charges of disturbing the peace, conspiracy and participation in a criminal street gang. The 16-year-old male was booked on charges of disturbing the peace, conspiracy, participation in a criminal street gang and assault with a deadly weapon.


The victim was treated for his injuries and later released from the hospital.


This incident remains under investigation and appears to be gang-related, and isolated to those directly involved. There is no ongoing threat to the community.


Due to the ages of those involved and the ongoing nature of the investigation, MPD is not releasing the identities of the individuals involved or additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
