A Madera County family has much to be grateful for this season. When their 14-month-old daughter began choking on the soft end of a pacifier, caregivers immediately called 9-1-1. Madera County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ronald Aguilar arrived quickly and began life saving measures. Working together with the caregivers, the obstruction was successfully dislodged.

Paramedics transported the child to Valley Childrens Hospital as a precaution. She was released shortly after and is doing well today.

“We are incredibly grateful for attentive caregivers and the training that our deputies receive to be able to provide the best care to our community,” said Sheriff Tyson Pogue in a statement. “In any emergency, stay calm and call 9-1-1 immediately. If you aren’t sure what to do, our dispatchers will walk your through the procedures until help arrives. We recommend taking a formal first aid training so that these skills can be used confidently when it matters most. Stay prepared, stay watchful, and help keep the little ones in our community safe.”
