Major injury in 4-car accident

A car passing over a set of double-yellow lines lost control of his vehicle, struck a rock on side of the road and overturned, causing a four vehicle accident on State Route 41, near Jewel Vista.


A white Hyundai Elantra, driven by a Hispanic Male from Fresno, was traveling on State Route 41, south of Jewel Vista Court. He passed several cars over a set of double yellow lines and then lost control of his vehicle. He struck a rock on the east side of the road, overturned and traveled out of control across the southbound lane.


As a result, the driver of a gray Toyota Tundra, that was driving south on 41, sideswiped the Elantra. A third driver, driving a gray Toyota Rav4, also going south on 41, behind the Tundra, was able to stop before hitting the Elantra.


However, a fourth driver, driving a black Nissan Sentra, also traveling south on 41 behind the Rav4, was unable to stop and crashed into the back of the Raf4.


As a resultof the crashes, the right front passenger of the Elantra sustained major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center by Sierra Ambulance.


All of the occupants and the driver of the Elantra were wearing their seatbelts. The driver of the Elantra was arrested for felony DUI. He also completed of pain, was treated at Madera Community Hospital and booked at Madera County Jail following medical clearance.


The driver and two rear passengers of the Tundra were transported to CRMC by Pistoresi Ambulance with complain of pain.
