Madera’s Jocelyn Mendez squares to bunt during the Coyotes’ 8-7 victory over Arroyo Grande on Friday. Mendez reached on this bunt single in the seventh inning that led to an insurance run. She had two other singles in the win.

With the recent storms, the Madera Coyotes softball team was happy to leave the rain-soaked Central Valley for the equally rain-soaked and cold Central Coast for a pair of games against Arroyo Grande.

On the plus side, the Coyotes scored 16 runs in the two games. However, on the down side, they gave up 15 runs and came away with an 8-7 victory and an 8-8 tie in 10 innings after the game was called on darkness.

The Coyotes showed plenty of growth from Thursday’s tie to Friday’s comeback victory. In Friday’s game, the Coyotes held a 5-0 lead before the Eagle scored five runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Madera scored three runs in the top of the 10th, but allowed three runs by the Eagles in the bottom of the inning.
