Coyotes record four-set CMAC victory

Madera’s Matthew Carrera rises up for one of his team-high 15 kills in a four-set win over Justin Garza on Thursday in Joe Flores Gym.

Madera Coyote boys volleyball head coach Rhonda Jefferson-Counsel knew adjustments needed to be made after her team lost the first set against Justin Garza-Fresno.

The adjustment: Insert freshman Samuel McDonald into the line-up. He settled the defensive side and his attacking counterpart, Michael Cunningham, put down key kills to lead the Coyotes to a 3-1 victory Thursday in Joe Flores Gym.

“That was the difference. Serving and defense is what he did,” Jefferson said. “Michael had some key point kills. It wasn’t hard, but they were smart. He made some nice passes, too.”
