Scott Farrell, engineer, was honored for his more than 40 years of service with the Madera Fire Department and later the California Department of Forestry (CDF) during his retirement ceremony at Madera City Hall on March 4.

Farrell began his fire service career in 1979 under the direction of then-Fire Captain Randy Cooper, and Jeff Metson. In May 1981, he joined the Madera City Volunteer Firefighters. The following month, he was hired by Cal Fire, known then as the CDF, and was assigned to Mariposa headquarters, where he served for six fire seasons.

In 1987, Farrell was hired by the City of Madera Fire Department as a firefighter, and was promoted to engineer in 1990. In 1993, when the Madera City Fire Department entered into its contract with Cal Fire, Engineer Farrell continued his service under that partnership, faithfully serving the community until his retirement.
