FRESNO — The Madera Coyotes girls basketball team came into its match-up with the Bullard-Fresno Knights riding a four-game winning steak that included a win over Bullard-Fresno

However, everything the Coyotes did right in the winning streak, they did wrong in Tuesday’s 47-31 loss to the Knights.

The Coyotes committed 30 turnovers, including 16 in the second half where the Knights outscored Madera 27-16 for the victory.

Madera outscored Bullard 23-6 in the fourth quarter in their win two weeks ago. However, they were outscored 15-9 Tuesday. In addition, Madera only made 10 field goals and went 0-for-10 in the second quarter.

Rhynne Mitchell led the Coyotes with 15 points, but she was the only Coyote to score more than seven points.

Aasyria Goins scored seven points with eight rebounds and she was the only other player to score more than three points.

The Coyotes got a free throw from Goins and a 3-pointer from Mitchell for a 4-2 lead. After Bullard tied the score, Goins banked in a 3-pointer for a 7-4 lead. Mitchell found Jasmine Levy with a long pass for a layup. Mitchell hit another 3-pointer for an 8-0 run and increase the lead to 12-4.

Bullard scored on a pair of layups to cut the lead to four. Aaliyah String found Sara Luna for a layup and a six-point lead.

However, the Knights hit a 3-pointer to close the first quarter to trail by three.

The Knights scored the first seven points of the second quarter for a 10-0 run. Mitchell stopped the drought with a free throw, but the Coyotes couldn’t score the rest of the half.

Meanwhile, Bullard closed the quarter with three more points for a 20-15 lead.

The Knights added a bucket to open the second half. However, a pair of Mitchell driving layups cut the Knights’ lead to three.

Bullard came back with an offensive rebound and a free throw.

Perez hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to three, again. But, Bullard closed the final four minutes with seven straight points for a 32-22 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Knights added another bucket in the fourth for a 9-0 run. Mitchell gave the Coyotes life with a driving layup.

However, turnovers on three straight possessions led to a pair of Knight 3-pointers for a 40-24 lead.

After a Bullard free throw, Lilly Smith and Mitchell made two free throws each to give the Coyotes a glimmer of light to cut the lead to 13.

However, the Knights put the nail in with a 3-pointer

The Coyotes’ defense did its part with two turnovers and a defensive rebound. However, the offense couldn’t come though with five missed shots, including three free throws.

Bullard made a layup and Goins hit a 3-pointer, but it was too late to change the outcome. Bullard made a free throw to close the scoring in a 47-31 victory.
