Madera’s Savana Cortez slides in safely at third base after dislodging the ball during her third inning triple in Tuesday’s playoff loss to Clovis North.

CLOVIS — For five innings, it was the expected pitcher’s dual between No. 2 Clovis North and the 10th seeded Madera Coyotes softball team in the Div. I quarterfinals.

However, Clovis North got three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on while the Coyotes scored three runs in the top of the seventh for a 5-4 victory Tuesday at Clovis North.

The Coyotes’ final out occurred on a close play at first base that ended their season amidst a strong comeback attempt.
