Coyote cheerleaders headed to national championships

For The Madera Tribune

The Madera Coyotes pep team will compete at the USA Spirit Nationals later this month. They are raffling off a Valentine’s Day Basket to help with costs. Tickets are $10 each and are available on the Madera High School Cheer and Dance Instagram page.

For the first time since 2019, members of the Madera Coyotes Pep team will be competing in the United Spirit Association Sprit Nationals.

The group of seven dancers and an alternate (Cianna Meas, Lila Nichols, Sophie Maciel, Airna Igler, Ella Galindo, Christina Rebel, Odessa Yanovsky and Lexxy Sanchez) will be compete Feb. 25 in Anaheim for the national title.

“The girls are very excited to be competing and representing Madera,” said coach Cambria Hix.

Hix said the team has been playing catch up because she became the head coach in the middle of the season. They will compete against teams who have been practicing since the summer while Hix and her group just started in December.

The team competed at the Clovis Pep Classic over the weekend. This will give them a good test of the environment and their competition. They placed third in the intermediate pom division.

In order to raise funds for their competition, the team is raffling off a Valentine’s Day Basket. Tickets are $10 each and the winner will be announced Feb. 11.

Tickets are available at any Madera Coyotes basketball home game or on instagram on the Madera High School cheer and Dance page.
