Cal Fire captains Bryant Camarena, center left, and Craig Waag, center right, hold certificates they received Tuesday from the Madera County Board of Supervisors, honoring their retirement after 34 years of service. From left are Supervisors Bobby Macauley, David Rogers, Chairwoman Leticia Gonzalez, Camarena, Waag, Madera County Assistant Fire Chief Larry Pendarvis, Supervisors Robert Poythress and Jordan Wamhoff and Madera County Fire Chief Justin Macomb.

Cal Fire Assistant Fire Chief, Larry Pendarvis honored two fire captains before this week’s Madera County Board of Supervisors meeting.

Both fire captains — Bryant Camarena and Craig Waag — began their careers in Madera in 1990, and were presented before the Board of Supervisors.

“Their selfless commitment to duty and their dedication to mentoring hundreds of future fire officers throughout their careers, should not go unnoticed,” Pendarvis told the Supervisors. “Each and every day, these two captains approached their responsibilities with a positive outlook, understanding that while they did not cause the emergencies they faced, they would always give their all to mitigate the situation when called upon. These two fine men are individuals I am honored to call not only professional and distinguished Fire Captains, but more importantly, family.”
