The Madera Coalition for Community Justice held an Earth Day event last week at the Coalition’s community garden where they raffled off plants and other prizes to community members.

This event will not have been possible without the assistance of the City of Madera Fire Department (station 56) for their electricity and water source. This event also would not have been possible without the generous donations from stores in Madera such as Lowe’s (pot soil), Home Depot (pots and seeds), Walmart (paint, pots and paint brushes), Peters Bother’s Nursery and Custom Landscaping (donated soil), and General Builders Supply (donated gloves, trash bags, and trash picking tools).

We also received donations from businesses in Fresno, such as Fresno Ag Hardware (plants), Gazebo Gardens (plants), Green Hills Nursery (plants), and Belmont Nursery (plants). From these donations, we filled a planting box with herbs, another with pollinating flowers, and two with vegetables. We planted flowers, parsley, lavender, onions, tomatoes, melons, epazote, oregano, and cucumbers.
