Gun threat at Madera South raises security level
Graffiti on a wall in a boy’s restroom raised serious concerns in Madera Wednesday, bringing an increased presence of Madera police officers at Madera South High School as well as additional campus security.
The bathroom message carried the threat of gun violence, and was similar to threats many local school districts, including Chowchilla, have received recently.
Madera South Principal Oracio Rodriguez apprised the school’s teachers by email of the situation, and a contact was also sent to parents notifying them of the situation.
According to director of accountability and communications Babatunde Ilori, Madera Unified “takes this and all threats seriously, and we will continue to work hard to protect our students.”
“Madera Unified will have increased security measures on campus tomorrow and for the foreseeable future. If a student or students are found to be guilty, they will be subject to the full extent of California Education Code, which could include expulsion, and potential criminal repercussions with law enforcement,” Ilori said.
Any one having information on this or any threat to Madera schools are asked to call Madera Police Department dispatch at 675-4220.
