Coyotes hold Clovis North to draw

The Madera Coyotes girls soccer team held Div. I opponent, the Clovis North Broncos, to a scoreless draw in a non-conference matchup at Lee DaSilva Field in Memorial stadium.

“That’s a good result,” Madera head coach Cameron Hill said after Wednesday’s match. “I know we talked last game about how we’ve been playing well defensively. It’s just that we haven’t been finding the back of the net, so it’s a good result against a Div. I team, a TRAC (Tri-River Athletic Conference) team. It’s just good going forward that the girls know we can play with teams like this.” After holding the Broncos to a draw, the Coyotes have only allowed 11 goals in nine games, a rate of 1.2 goals allowed each game. A stat that Madera head coach Cameron Hill is aware of.

“I think it kind of just happens that way,” Hill said. “More of our veteran players are on the defensive. We actually tried something a little bit different today and we were still solid defensively. We might stick with that, but we can always change and adapt.”

Although Madera and Clovis North battled out to a draw, Noemi Cabello and Mia Alvarez provided a lift in both defense and midfield throughout the game. Both players combined for 138 minutes on the pitch.

“They did what they had to,” Hill said. They were winning the ball, making their passes and I thought they were the engines that drove us today.”

The work doesn’t stop however. With another TRAC team ahead, the team must build off their result and move forward.

“We can come out here and compete and they don’t have to be afraid just because it’s a division one team,” Hill said about his upcoming opponents. “We have players that can play at any level.”
