Madera South hires new football coach
After getting approved by the Madera Unified School District Board of Trustees last week, former Edison-Fresno football coach Matt Johnson is hitting the ground running to lead the Madera South Stallions.
Johnson, who led the Tigers to six County/Metro Athletic Conference championships and two Valley Championships, heads to Madera after leading Edison for the past five years.
He helped former NFL Pro Bowler Tim McDonald at Edison before taking over after McDonald left.
Johnson replaces Dane Cook as the third football coach for the Madera South program. Cook resigned in April.
He is the second football coach in as many years to be hired by Madera Unified School District high schools after Yosef Fares was hired from Bullard-Fresno to lead the Coyotes last year.
Johnson played college football at USC and was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks.
