Coalinga's Chrome ninth in last race

Coalinga’s favorite bred horse California Chrome finished off a brilliant career Saturday at the $12 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational in Florida.

According to Debbie Arrington of the Saramento Bee, Art Sherman noticed Chrome was showing discomfort in his right leg and that may have caused a ninth place finish behind winner Arrogate.

Chrome, who was born at Coalinga’s Harris Ranch in Central California, won the 2014 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes and was retired from racing after earning more than $14.7 million.

Chrome was an honorary Coalinga Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year in 2015.
