A crowd of Maderans march in the annual March of Jesus event. About 200 turned out to participate.

Trumpets were sounded as a long procession gathered at 700 Yosemite Ave. in Madera. Carrying signs in English and Spanish which professed the Christian faith, the marchers were part of the 15th annual March for Jesus, an event organized by Pastor Xavier Sanchez of the Iglesia Christiana Betesda church in Madera.

“This represents the churches of Madera, the Spanish ministry puts it on,” said Pastor Tim Echevarria of New Harvest Christian Fellowship, whose congregation took part in the march. “Every single block, they say prayers over our city, over our community, just the start the whole new year off, to let this city know that this city is going to be for Jesus.”

According to Sanchez, an estimated 200 people came to the march, which finished at Memorial Courthouse Park, where they worshipped together.
