Payton Poore
For The Madera Tribune One of Payton Poore’s favorite parts of 4-H is mentoring our young members. Poore, left, stands with Hayden Van Alen and her Rabbit showmanship achievement.
Payton Poore is 14 years old and a freshman at Minarets High School.
This will be her seventh year as a member of the Sierra Shadows 4-H Club. She joined 4-H when she was 9 because she wanted to learn more about animals and meet new friends.
“I know that I can do so many different things by being in 4-H and it has helped me become more active and a leader for the younger members,” she said.
“I participated in five projects this past year: poultry, floriculture, healthy living, public speaking and pistol. I am also the club reporter.
“I was a junior leader and have earned my platinum star. Some of the things I am working towards this year are being a teen leader and completing an emerald star project for the county.”
She enjoys community service as well and feel, it is important to promote and engage different service projects for 4-H members.
“One new thing we did this year was a national campaign called Wreaths Across America. I sold living wreaths and helped place them on the graves of veterans. It was well organized and I was very moved to be a part of it. They had representatives from all branches of the military, and full band and gun salute.
“I also am working on my leadership. I was assistant junior camp counselor at camp for the second time and really enjoy working with others and being a leader. Thank you to 4-H for helping me feel more confident in the things I can do.”
