Unclaimed veteran cremains to be interred

Six Madera County veterans will be laid to rest Friday at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella thanks to the Missing in America Project with the aid of local agencies and veterans groups.

The volunteer project works to find, identify and inter unclaimed cremated remains of U.S. veterans. The public is invited to attend the interment ceremony.

Veterans being interred include: Guy C. Vernetti (Army), Raymond Fisher Jr. (Army), Thomas E. Deckert (Air Force), Gordon “Grey” H. King (Army), Juan A. Romo (Army) and Thornton W. Milford (Army, Air Force and Marine Corps).

The interment is schedued for 9 a.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall Post #1981, 2026 N. Granada Ave., according to Leticia Gonzalez, District 4 chief of staff. The service will be conducted by members of the post followed by a motorcycle escort by MIAP Escort Riders to San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

The proceedings are thanks to the VFW post, MIAP, American Legion Post 11, the Madera County Veterans Services Office and the Madera County Board of Supervisors.
