Fundraisers set for baseball players

Baseball players Evan Candelaria and Jonathan Spraggins will hold a fundraiser at Mountain Mike’s Pizza on July 30 to help fund their trip to Cooperstown, New York, in August.

Candelaria and Spraggins earned a spot on the 12-year-old Future Prospects Instructional Baseball team, which will be traveling to Cooperstown.

The duo hosted a fundraiser at Mountain Mike’s on Friday and will hold another all day July 30. Mention Candelaria and Spraggins at the time of the purchase and the restaurant will donate 25 percent of the total to the players.

For information or to donate, contact Coleen Spraggins at 474-5477. Trio still looking for donors Madera baseball 13-year-olds Steven Andrew Mares, Tanner Sagouspe and Kristian Gomez were selected to the Northwest Region in the USSSA All-American Games in Florida from Aug. 7-14.

Coyote football kickoff dinner The Madera Coyote football team will host a Coyote Kick-Off Dinner on Aug. 9 at the San Joaquin Winery, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $60 each and includes a tri-tip dinner, music and dancing. There will also be a live and silent auction.

The dinner is open to all community members and their spouses.

“We want the alumni to get excited about Coyote football and the new direction and vision we are trying to get done in Madera,” first-year head coach Yosef Fares said. “We want them to be excited about what we’re putting them out there. We want the classes from the past to be excited about what we’re doing. It’s their team out there, as well.”

Tickets can be purchased from any Coyote football player or coach or at Lee’s Concrete, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. before Aug. 2.
