Torres’ Joseph Bass (3) congratulates Ryan Lutz after Lutz scored a second inning run during Tuesday’s history-making victory over the Avenal Buccaneers. The win was the first playoff win Toros baseball program history.

The Matilda Torres Toros baseball team put any thoughts of playoff jitters to rest with an 11-run first inning to cruise to a 20-1 victory in the first round of the Div. VI Central Section playoffs.

The Toros capped off the shortened game with a nine-run third inning to record the first playoff win in the program’s history Wednesday afternoon at Eddie Chapa Field over the 12th seeded Avenal Buccaneers.

The fifth-seeded Toros banged out 17 hits, but also took advantage of six Avenal errors that led to 13 unearned runs for the win.
