Stallion runner continuing tradition

Wendy Alexander/The Madera Tribune

Madera South runner Vidal Luna III sits with his father, Vidal Luna Jr., after signing his National Letter of Intent to run at Fresno Pacific University in the fall.

Madera South Stallions cross country and track athlete Vidal Luna is continuing one of the valued traditions within the cross country and track programs — competing at the college level for Fresno Pacific University.

According to Madera’s cross country historian, Mike Lennemann, 17 Madera Unified School District athletes have run for the cross country and track programs at Fresno Pacific University, dating back to Martin Urias in 1970.

Luna continues that tradition at Fresno Pacific where there has been a cross country and track athlete from Madera Unified at FPU since 2005, and from Madera Soiuth since 2013.
