Shrinking Stallions fall to Hornets

Madera South’s Giovanni Gastelum goes in the air to pull in an interception during Friday’s loss to the Sanger West Hornets. Gastelum was the leading receiver for the Stallions totaling near 100 yards.

With injuries running rampant though the Madera South football team, only 22 players suited up for last week’s loss to the Sanger West Hornets.

Because of injuries and suspensions, the Stallions were diminishing in Friday’s 22-14 loss to the Hornets. However, the Stallions had a chance at the end of the game, throwing incomplete on fourth down on the final play.

“We just didn’t have enough to win games this year. I like the strides we’re making,” head coach Matt Johnson said. “We had chances to win the game. We had a shot earlier, but we turned it over. That one hurt. Our defense knuckled in and we got a big interception. Corde McDonald had a great game.”
