Community members join hands to sing “We Shall Overcome” at the conclusion of Sunday’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Local Host Committee put together a program for the annual MLK celebration that was superb, according to many who attended.
Alejandro Juarez, Principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School served as emcee for the afternoon. The nearly 250 attendees were welcomed by Donald Holley, president of the sponsoring committee. He also made a special presentation to Rose Walker, in absentia, who has retired as the committee’s treasurer after many years of keeping track of the organization’s financial transactions.
Pastor Rick Williams of the Grace Tabernacle Church gave the invocation as well as the benediction at the program’s conclusion. Tricia Protzman, Madera County Superintendent of Schools introduced ministers and pastors, political dignitaries, and local educators who were in attendance.
