Late run upsets Toros

Matilda Torres’ lone senior, Sabrina Cerrillo, goes in for a layup during Wednesday’s first-round playoff loss to Mendota. Cerrillo led the Toros with 14 points to conclude her career as the program’s leading scorer while scoring more than 1,000 points in her career.

In a game more suited for the quarterfinal or semifinal round of the Central Section playoffs, the Matilda Torres Toros couldn’t overcome two late 3-pointers in a Div. IV first-round playoff loss to the Mendota Aztecs.

The 13th-seeded Aztecs outscored the fourth-seeded Toros 14-6 in the fourth quarter for a 35-32 victory Wednesday in the Torres gym.

Sabrina Cerrillo led the Toros with 14 points while J’Lynn Mitchell added 10 points. However, the rest of the team scored eight points.
