Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, a special day set aside for recognizing and giving thanks for all the many good things in our lives. It is by far my favorite holiday of the year.

I have many fond memories of Thanksgiving Days during my life. As I was growing up in central Florida, my family always spent Thanksgiving at my Aunt Sybil and Uncle John’s house in Dade City, which was about 40 miles from where we lived. Aunt Sybil was one of my grandmother’s four sisters. Her husband, Uncle John, was a veterinarian.

After we moved to Georgia, we started going to another relative’s house for Thanksgiving. Uncle Cory was one of my grandmother’s four brothers. He and Aunt Ruby lived just outside of Birmingham, Alabama. It was a much longer trip than the Florida one, almost 150 miles. We would leave home early and head for Alabama. About half way there, we always stopped at Aunt Neva and Uncle Charlie’s house for a visit. Aunt Neva was another sister of my grandmother’s.
