Coyotes pushed to the limit

Madera libero Emily Lopez gets a pass up to the setter to start the offense during Wednesday’s five-set win over Hoover while Aliyah Garcia (6) watches the action.

The Madera Coyotes girls volleyball team seemed to have the match in hand, winning the first two sets against the Hoover Patriots rather easily.

However, the Patriots took advantage of Madera’s inconsistent play to record back-to-back 25-23 wins to force a fifth set. Madera used its experience for a 15-11 win to record a five-set non-conference victory Wednesday in Joe Flores Gym.

“You can see a lot of frustration,” head coach Meghan Haas said. “Hoover played well. We had to find different ways to score, which was good for us. We kind of buckled down at the end and it was a total team effort. Players came off the bench and did their part.”
