City proclaims National Sikh Day
For The Madera Tribune
The Madera Sikh Community is joined by all council members and the Mayor of Madera in the City Council chambers.
The American Sikh Sangat, in collaboration with the Madera Sikh Community, embarked on a journey to petition the City of Madera for the acknowledgment and proclamation of ‘Vaisakhi’ as a National Sikh Day.
Following unanimous consent from the city council members and Mayor Santos Garcia, Jasdev Singh Gill, representing the American Sikh Sangat, along with fellow Sikh community members, officially received the proclamation on April 3 at City Hall.
Consequently, the City of Madera now formally acknowledges the profound religious and farming significance of Vaisakhi within the Sikh community.
