AMAE hosts annual scholarship dinner

The Madera Association of Mexican American Educators (AMAE) host a scholarship dinner to honor recipients from left, Eddie Gonzalez, Hermenegildo Fernandez, Devin Delgado, Makayla Turner, Belen Gonzalez, Maria Pimentel-Barriga, Angela Lopez Garcia, and Emily Valencia. The event was held at Matilda Torres High School.

 

The Madera Chapter of the Associaotion of Mexican American Educators helds its annual scholarship awards dinner at Matilda Torres High School.


Ten Madera and Madera South high school seniors each received a $1,000 scholarship at the June 24 dinner. The scholarship recipients were Glorimar Cortes-Velasquez, Hermenegildo Fernandez, Maria Pimentel-Barriga, Emily Valencia, Eddie Gonzalez, Devin Delgado, Belen Gonzalez and Miguel Ortiz Garcia.


There were also two scholarships In Memoriam awarded — the Friends & Family of Natalie Deniz Scholarship Award awarded to Makayla Turner and the Friends & Family of Dr. Mario Juarez Torres awarded to Angela Lopez Garcia.


The keynote speaker was George Torres widower of Matilda Torres, whom the high school is named after.

Chapter President Dr. Bruce Alameida introduced dignitaries in attendance Madera Mayor Santos Garcia, City Councilwoman Cece Gallegos, City Councilman Steve Montes, Mayor Pro Tem Artemio Villegas and Madera County Superintendent Cecilia Massetti.


Also in attendance was Fresno AMAE Chapter President Dr. Berta Felix Mata and State AMAE President Edward Ponce.


Special Plaque Presentations were awarded to loyal sponsors: Carniceria Mi Pueblo, Seann Garcia, Dr. Adolfo Silva, Dr. Alfred Valles, Dr. Mario Gonzalez, John Deniz and RubberSoul Bicycles.
