Inside the Game: Madera South 20, Hoover Patriots 7
Players of the game: Dallas Hansen’s 40-yard touchdown grab sealed the win for the Stallions. He caught the ball, then stiff armed his defender and rumbled into the end zone for the score. Although he wasn’t the most accurate passer, quarterback Steven Alaniz delivered when it mattered. He passed for two touchdowns and converted a game-sealing fourth down conversion in the fourth quarter.
Unsung heroes of the game: Although the players take the credit for the win, behind the scenes first-year head coach Matt Johnson got his players ready and prepared for their first win of the season, while also getting his first Madera South victory.
The Hoover Patriots committed 12 penalties throughout the game, giving the Stallions more than 50 free yards the entire contest. The Stallions were able to capitalize and score two first half touchdowns, which was just enough to see off the Patriots.
Play of the game: Brandon Mora sealed the game with a 70-yard fourth quarter touchdown run that broke the hopes of the Hoover faithful. The Stallions needed a big play and Mora delivered with his best run of the season.
