‘Book of Days’ opens at Madera South

Madera South Theatre Company’s director, Ginger Latimer, and her fellow managers and designers, opened Thursday night with their latest dramatic production, “Book of Days.”
According to Latimer, the play explores the moral degeneracy of the small fictional town of Dublin, Missouri, which has a population of 4,780 and is the county seat of Chosen County.
The proud and successful town patriarch of Dublin suffers a fall, and a Joan of Arc-like heroine tries to awaken others to the real truth of the town.
Dublin has been described as “American as an Ozark spring with a recitation of the small joys of the little town and its dogwood trees, redbud, dairy farms, and grass so green it hurts your eyes.”
But there are some hidden, dark secrets in this town. The night a tornado roars through Dublin, someone dies under suspicious circumstances, and it falls to a strong-minded young woman to uncover the rottenness in the heart of the town.
Pulitzer-prize winning playwright Lanford Wilson wrote “Book of Days.”
After its opening on Thursday, the play ran Friday night and will continue with performances on tonight and Sunday. The production will finish its run on November 2, 3, and 5.
There will be a matinee on Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. All other performances will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Madera South High School Theatre, 705 W. Pecan Ave., Madera.
