Badger invades Coyote territory
For The Madera Tribune Madera High School physical education teachers were surprised to find another student in the Olive Avenue gym Tuesday morning when a young badger was found in the boiler room. Madera Animal Control Officers responded to a very unusual call for service at Madera High School after a badger was discovered hiding inside a storage closet on campus. While animal control officers handle a wide variety of calls, wildlife incidents like this are extremely rare.

Pedestrian dies after getting struck
Madera Police Officers were dispatched to Vineyard Avenue and E 6th Street for a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. When officers arrived Saturday evening at about 6:50 p.m., they determined a vehicle driving eastbound on Sixth Street briefly stopped at the stop sign at Vineyard Avenue. The driver proceeded through the intersection as a pedestrian was walking northbound in the west crosswalk of the intersection. The driver struck the pedestrian and stopped shortly after.

Auditor announces financial report completed

Chowchilla library awarded grant
Librarians in Madera County are showcasing how math can be fun, no matter how old you are, thanks to a new national grant. Recently, Madera County Library’s Chowchilla Branch became just one of 20 libraries in the country, and the only one in California, to receive a grant from the Simons Foundation spearheading a national math initiative. The grant of $10,000 will fund community engagement with hands-on, interactive math experiences for all ages.

One-way traffic on SR 41
One-way traffic control will be in place on State Route 41 between Road 406 and Jewel Vista Court for shoulder and curb repairs. The one-way traffic began Tuesday, and will run through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both northbound and southbound lanes will be impacted.
