Madera’s Erika Perez hits first base during a first inning triple during Tuesday’s 11-0 victory over the Madera South Stallions. Perez added a double in the game.

The Madera Coyotes softball team made sure this wasn’t going to be the year the Madera South Stallions picked up their first win over their rivals with an 11-0 victory at Zimmerman Field.

The Coyotes pounded out 13 hits, including five for extra bases, in Tuesday’s victory. Madera pitcher Alexis Galvan tossed a complete game four-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks.

Tayah Hernandez, Erika Perez, Eliza DeAnda, Valerie Ornelas and Felicity Rocha each had two hits for the Coyotes. Hernandez, and Rocha hit doubles while Perez hit a double and a triple. Ornelas had the big hit with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

Meanwhile, the Stallions managed four hits with singles from Savaanah Garcia, Erica Valdez and Viviana Porras and a double from Anna Garcia.

Galvan only allowed two baserunners to reach scoring position and both were with two outs in the inning.

While the Madera offense was attacking Madera South pitching, Galvan retired the first six batters in a row. She allowed a bunt single to Porras, but got the next two outs. Garcia reached on a bunt single for two runners on, but Porras was picked off second by catcher Ornelas to end the third inning.

Garcia hit a two-out double off the bench for the Stalllions in the fifth, but Galvan got a flyout to centerfielder Joslynn Davis to end the game via mercy rule.

The Coyotes started the scoring barrage in the first inning. Hernandez hit the third pitch she saw into the left-centerfield gap for a double. Perez followed with a triple down the right field line to easily score Hernandez. DeAnda singled to left to drive in Perez.

After a popout, Davis reached on an infield single to put runners at first and second. Ornelas put down a bunt to move the runners up a base. Mariah McMillon reached on an infield single to drive in DeAnda while Davis scored from second on the play.

Rocha singled while McMillon took third. Nevaeh Montes singled to drive in McMillon for an early 5-0 lead.

The Coyotes added two more runs in the second. With one out, DeAnda reached on an error and stole second. Sofia Perez grounded out to move DeAnda to third. DeAnda scored on a wild pitch. Davis was hit by a pitch and stole second. Ornelas singled off the glove of a diving Valdez to drive in Davis from second for a 7-0 lead.

After a scoreless third, Madera put the game away in the fourth. Erika Perez led off with a double to left-center. She came around to score on DeAnda’s single up the middle. DeAnda stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Sofia Perez drew a walk and pinch-runner Ari Ochoa stole second.

Davis grounded out while the runners held.

On a 2-1 pitch, Ornelas found the pitch she wanted and launched a no-doubt home run over the left field fence to give the Coyotes an 11-0 lead to invoke the mercy rule.
