A woman in her 40s was visiting from Southern California and was hiking with family on the Lewis Creek Trail near Corlieu Falls when she suffered a serious ankle injury after a misstep on the trail Sunday afternoon.
Madera County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR), deputies, CAL FIRE, and Sierra Ambulance quickly responded to the remote location. Due to the steep terrain, emergency personnel requested helicopter support from CHP H-40.
The woman’s injury was stabilized on-scene before she was hoisted out of the canyon and flown to the Batterson Fire Station, where an ambulance transported her to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
