Madera’s Isabella Aguirre throws a pitch in Tuesday’s win over Sanger West. Aguirre struck out 14 batters, one short of a school record, in the victory.
With its top three hitters out of the line-up, the Madera Coyotes softball team worked some small ball for a 4-0 victory over the Sanger West Hornets at Zimmerman Field.
Coyote pitcher Isabella Aguirre had her best game in a Madera uniform with a complete game shutout. She struck out 14 batters and only eight balls were put in play. Aguirre struck out the side twice and recorded at least two strikeouts in every inning except the seventh.
She did have some control problems, walking three and hit a batter, that caused her to throw 119 pitches. She also went 3-0 to a batter, but struck them out three times. She had three balls to eight different batters, but struck out five of them.
